Saffron Field Haven
Two potted plants, a leafy herb and a lavender, on a sunlit wooden table beside a window

A herb corner that actually thrives where you live

Ninety relaxed minutes to read your light, check your drainage and choose herbs that suit your space and your cooking — then a plan you can follow for the whole year.

The promise

Leave with a plan that fits your corner and your week

Picture stepping out to cut a few shiso leaves for tonight's rice, knowing the plant is in the right pot, in the right light, and will be there again next week. That quiet confidence is what this visit is for.

  • A shortlist of herbs chosen for your actual sun hours
  • Pot sizes and soil that keep roots comfortable through tsuyu and summer
  • A calendar that tells you what to do, month by month, in your region
  • The calm of knowing what you're doing — and why

The problem

If your herbs keep fading, you're far from alone

Most people who contact us have tried before. A basil plant that looked wonderful in May, then sulked by July. A rosemary that drowned in the rainy season. It's discouraging, and it's rarely the gardener's fault.

Light guessed, not measured

A spot that feels sunny at breakfast may be in shade by eleven.

Advice for another climate

Many guides assume dry Mediterranean summers, not Japanese humidity.

Too much at once

Ten plants on day one can feel like a duty by week six.

The solution

Start from the site, then choose the plants

We begin with your space as it really is. Using a simple sun-hour check, a drainage test and a look at wind and reflected heat, we sketch what each part of your corner can offer.

Only then do we talk plants — shiso, mitsuba, sansho, basil, rosemary, thyme and others — matched to those conditions and to the dishes you enjoy. Herbs you'll actually reach for get priority over ones that merely look nice.

The approach works because it removes guesswork at the very start, when it matters most. Everything after that becomes far easier.

The experience

What our 90 minutes together look like

In person in Miyazaki City (or nearby, by arrangement), or by video call anywhere else in Japan — you show us around with your phone camera and we look together.

  1. 0–20 min

A walk around your space. We note light, drainage and what's already growing.

  2. 20–50 min

Talking food and habits — what you cook, how often you're home, how much watering you enjoy.

  3. 50–80 min

Shortlisting herbs and containers together, with reasons for each choice.

  4. 80–90 min

Questions, next steps, and a rough sketch you can look at straight away.

It's a conversation, not an inspection. Bring tea, bring questions, bring the plant you're worried about.

The investment

One visit, a year of clarity

For roughly the cost of a few rounds of replacement herb pots, you get a plan built to last. Perennials planted in the right place can keep giving for many seasons.

No travel charge inside Miyazaki City; farther out, any travel cost is agreed in writing first. Online sessions are the same price.

The proof

How you'll see it working

Gardens don't change overnight, and we'd never pretend otherwise. Here's what a realistic first season tends to look like.

First few weeks

New leaves on transplanted herbs; roots settling. Your calendar tells you what to watch for.

Six to eight weeks

In the warm months, fast growers like basil and shiso are usually ready for regular light picking.

The following year

Perennials such as rosemary, thyme and sansho return with more vigour once they've had a season to settle.

Progress is easy to track: each month on your calendar has a short "what you should see" note. If what you see doesn't match, that's exactly what the 30-day follow-up message is for.

Our commitment to you

If the plan doesn't suit, we'll make it suit

Should anything in your sketch or calendar turn out not to fit your space once you start — a pot that won't sit right, a herb that turns out to be a poor match — tell us within 30 days and we'll revise it at no extra charge.

And if you'd simply like to talk before booking, we're happy to have a short, no-obligation chat by email or phone first.
